			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Automation technology of creation three-dimensional model of any physical objects by means of prototyping machines like stereo lithography apparatuses, SLS systems (selective laser sintering) or three-dimensional printing is called rapid prototyping or RP. Being the part of rapid production tooling, the process of rapid prototyping is assisted by a computer that is why it is also called CAD manufacturing. Rapid prototyping can divided into several types, or methods.  The first method called additive is based on the layered technology. Any CAD graphical program creates an image of a future object and divides it into cross sections, being cut off gradually during the prototyping process. A prototyping machine casts an object from such materials as metal powder, prototyping wax, different prototyping liquids, etc., the same way as the object is segmented by a computer – layer by layer. Layers are joined by means of glue usage, shaping the exact copy of the virtual prototyping model.  This RP process looks the same as ancient ceramic mold casting. One of the greatest advantages of rapid prototyping is that an object of practically any geometrical form can be produced. The only minus characterizing RP is that produced parts can be sometimes smaller than actual parts or details of mechanisms.<br />
The second RP method is a subtractive one. The essence of the process lies in following. The RP machine uses special tool not to build up but to cut off the layers of materials, such as prototyping wax, in order to create the exact copy of the source object.  CNC or computer numerical control is similar to this RP method. Subtractive technology is much more reliable and tried than any other rapid prototyping technology. It has much in common with sculpture, where extra material is usually carved off by means of special tools in order to get forms that are more accurate. Considering disadvantages of subtractive method, it is necessary to admit that this method is usually applied for creation of simple details. This method is great for big-scale projects, but taking into account that subtractive method is good for production of small parts, details must be combined to get the accomplished product. <br />
Combining of materials is very important in the rapid prototyping technology. Mixing is usually done to get more solid and reliable model. For example, the outer shell of the model may consist of some soft prototyping material melting at high temperatures, whereas the inner filling is done from temperature resistant material. When a model is subjected to heat treatment the outer  layer melts and the finished model has accurate shape and incredible solidness.<br />

Less than 20 years ago rapid prototyping was just a project , the technology of the future whereas today it is a reality and very enhanced reality. In the past all prototyping models were created manually, the process was time-consuming and expensive. That is why specialists in the sphere of prototyping admitted the necessity to implement something new inexperienced before. It was not an experiment but glaring necessity because the obsolescence of the former technology became more and more obvious.  As we can see, rapid prototyping technology came instead of old-fashioned unproductive technology that had to be replaced.  RP (the shortened name of the technology, used more often than the full variant) became a starting point in production of the artificial copies of any existing object irrespectively of its size and shape, the production, called rapid prototyping.  What is the essence of this new process? RP is a machine prototyping, carried out without human’s assistance. The process is computerized, so everything, needed to be done is to program a special application operating rapid prototyping machine. Three-dimension graphical program forms a potential model that is later done by means of machine prototyping. The system of computerized creation of the rapid prototyping is called CAD – computer-aided design. The CAD is an inalienable constituent of the rapid prototyping process. A finished model is usually extremely accurate and well shaped. What does help to reach so good results? The thing is, that design of the future model  is fulfilled by high-accuracy 3D graphic program, which was specially created in order to work out models of the best quality. The technology does not need additional tooling to shape the result of the rapid prototyping process; a special layered technology was created exactly with this purpose. A computer transmits signals to machine; more precisely, CAD lies in programmed controlling of the rapid prototyping machine work. <br />
 The process itself is not as rapid as it may seem from the name of the RP technology. Depending on the needed accuracy and requirements of a client, RP process can take from several hours to several days or even weeks of work. The main reason for this is that models under production can later be aggressively tested, depending on the sphere of model usage. In this case, two or more prototypes may be needed in the course of the process. Thus, the process can require even more time than it was predicted before the beginning of the project. <br />
To sum up, rapid prototyping technology is a great step forward in prototyping sphere, which not only makes the whole process work faster but also provides qualitative and solid RP models.</p>

When a model comes of the machine it doesn’t require any additional tooling which also decreases costs of the production. The process is only controlled by a computer and machine, no outer interference. The process implemented by a prototyping machine is computer-assisted.
